Boat women 8 April 2008
Why choose a floating home?

With the credit crunch making it harder and harder to find an affordable mortgage, many people are deciding to invest in a canal boat instead. And according to the Residential Boat Owners’ Association increasing numbers of women are now choosing to live afloat. This is particularly evident in and around big UK cities where the lack of affordable housing and the redevelopment of canals is attracting a new breed of single, professional women. Yet dip beneath the surface and is boat life as practical and idyllic as it seems? Anna Bailey caught up with three women who have chosen to live on the water, casting off with Chloe Billington on the Regent’s Canal.
