 How attacks on women are on the increase in India
First it was Bangladesh, then Pakistan and now India too seems to be seeing a growing increase in the numbers of acid attacks. The attacks are so lethal that they either kill or leave the victim permanently disfigured - especially horrific as most of the victims are usually from the poorest backgrounds and can’t get even basic medical treatment.
As Sunita Thakur discovers, what makes this crime particularly galling is the fact that the majority of women attacked have merely said no to the advances of their husbands, employers or would-be boyfriends.
