 How is she being received by the people of Pakistan?
In 1988 Benazir Bhutto became one of the first democratically-elected female prime ministers in an Islamic country. Serving two terms as Prime Minister of the Pakistan People’s Party, less than a decade later, her cabinet collapsed amid allegations of corruption and she became an exile. Despite the charges made against her, Bhutto has now returned to her home country to stand for a third term in the forthcoming elections. After the suicide bombings which coincided with her arrival, what now are the people of Pakistan making of the prodigal daughter’s return?
