Keeping divorce out of the courts 08 Oct  2007
London's 'magic circle' of top family judges and lawyers campaign to keep divorce out of the courts.

A total of 148,000 couples were divorced in Britain last year. An estimated 60% of these cases ended up in court. Now, for the first time, Britain's top family judges and lawyers are campaigning for divorce to be taken out of the courts. They have backed a scheme to encourage the use of 'collaborative law' where couples are asked to commit to resolve issues through co-operative negotiation rather than in a court room. Jane talks to Jane Craig, a specialist in family law with leading law firm Manches, about why they have backed this approach.
