Championing an education in gardening for the young
Frances Wolseley, the daughter of the distinguished soldier Viscount Wolseley, was presented at court but rejected marriage and the conventions of her upper class background to become one of the pioneers in gardening education for women at the beginning of the last century. Merilyn Harris went to the site of the school that she founded at Glynde in East Sussex to find out more about this forgotten woman gardener from the gardening historian Twigs Way.
