Forgotten Gardeners: Augusta, Princess of Wales 24 Aug 2007
Kew Gardens
Founder of the gardens at Kew

The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew are famous throughout the world but it’s a little known fact that their pre-eminence is due to the enthusiasm and commitment of Augusta, Princess of Wales. She was Princess of Wales between 1736 and 1751, but she became one of only three holders of the title who never became Queen, after her husband Prince Frederick died. Garden historian Twigs Way shows us what Augusta managed to achieve.
