The Future of Hospices 03 August 2007
Carer
Who should pay for a "good death"?

New figures show that whilst hospices are facing an increase in demand for their services, the funding they receive from the NHS is actually dropping in real terms - despite the Government’s manifesto pledge to double investment in palliative care. So how much do we value the expertise hospices offer our communities and can we afford to give all those who need ‘end of life care’ a good death? To discuss these issues, Jane Little is joined by Sheila Payne, the UK’s first professor of Hospice Studies [Lancaster University], Vicki Morrey from Help the Hospices and Ivan Lewis, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Health.
