Nazanin Afshin-Jam
The singer and activist found inspiration in her Iranian roots.

Nazanin Afshin-Jam was only one when her parents went into exile from their native Iran. She grew up in Canada and became involved in raising awareness of global humanitarian issues. In order to reach more people she entered and subsequently won the Miss Canada competition and went on to be the first runner up in Miss World. Her campaigning has continued in her music and her debut album is released in August. As well as singing live in the studio, Nazanin tells Jane why she felt compelled to combine celebrity with campaigning.
