Health-Led Parenting Support Programme 23rd May 2007
Unborn babies judged to be at risk of turning to crime in later life, are to be targeted by a new government programme. Midwives and health visitors will begin intensive support with vulnerable young mothers just sixteen weeks after conception. Based on a scheme developed 25 years ago in the USA, the Government has already committed seven million pounds to ten pilot projects.

Jenni talks to Kate Billingham, Government Deputy Chief Nursing Officer and to Jill Kirby, Chair of the Family Policy group at the Centre for Policy Studies about whether the scheme can break the cycle of deprivation and criminal behaviour.
