Say the word prom to your average British teenager and they won’t think you’re talking about classical music concerts at the Albert hall. They’re more likely to be thinking of an end of school party - the kind portrayed in American movies - complete with limos, party dresses and the coronation of a prom king or queen. Miriam will be joined by Dr Stacey Abbott, senior lecturer in film studies at Roehampton University, to discuss how this US tradition become part of our culture.
