Weighing up the risks of HRT |

The UK Million Women Study recently claims to have found that HRT significantly increases the risk of ovarian cancer. The new analysis of 948,576 postmenopausal women showed a 20% increased risk of developing and dying from ovarian cancer in HRT users, compared with those who had never used the treatment. However some in the medical community believe the report exaggerates the risks. While these new findings have prompted recommendations that women weigh up the risks and benefits of taking HRT, how do you go about doing this?
Jenni Murray is joined by author of the report, Professor Valerie Beral Director of Cancer Research UK's epidemiology unit at the University of Oxford, and Mr Malcolm Whitehead Director of the Menopause Clinic at Kings College Hospital London, who considers the report to be flawed, to discuss the findings and advise women on how to weigh up the risks of taking HRT.Cancer Research UKDisclaimer
