There are over 600 varieties of snowdrops and their arrival is the cue for country houses and estates all round the UK to open their gardens for "galanthophiles" or lovers of snowdrops.
This year sees the first-ever Scottish Snowdrop Festival in which more than 60 gardens are taking part. Among them is the Cambo Estate near St Andrews owned by Catherine Erskine. Reporter Helen Ross went to see her.
