Rainwater Harvesting 19 Feb 2007
Rainwater harvesting became the buzz word of the long hot summer - whether it was rain water butts in the garden, or sophisticated collection systems on the roof. With hose pipe bans across much of the South of England every effort was made to conserve rain for the garden. In Africa - it's obviously a much more of a challenge. Yet despite the increasing frequency of droughts in sub-Saharan Africa some scientists believe there is more than enough rainfall to sustain the continent’s ever burgeoning population. And in southern Kenya , a women’s group, using this simplest of technologies, has improved water supplies and drastically cut down the amount of time spent searching for water. Victoria Averill went to meet them.
