This weekend Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank that he founded will receive the Nobel Peace prize. The Bangladesh based bank is one of the pioneers of micro-credit lending schemes for the poor in developing countries. According to the bank, 97% of its borrowers are women – and it helps them to set up their own businesses and move out of poverty.
A group of women in Norfolk and Suffolk have been piloting Yunus’s ideas here in Britain. Their 'Full Circle' programme is designed to help women set up in business, on their own. Only a quarter of entrepreneurs in the UK are women and the government is keen for more women to start up companies. So far 'Full Circle' has been running for eight years and has lent £100,000 to women to help launch enterprises. Reporter Louise Adamson has been to Norwich to find out more.Women's Employment Enterprise Training Unit The Nobel Peace PrizeDisclaimer
