Emailing
Even in the world of cyber space it seems that men and women are communicating differently. A study of emails has shown a marked difference in how the sexes write. Women’s emails tend to be more flowery – men get to the point. The differences could have repercussions on how the sender is perceived – men can be wrongly seen as rude or abrupt, whereas women may not be taken seriously because they take longer to get to the point.

Miriam O'Reilly is joined in the studio by Marilyn Davidson, Professor of Work Psychology at Manchester Business School and Guy Browning, Guardian columnist and business consultant.

Gender and Communication at Work by Marilyn Davidson and Mary Barrett is published by Ashgate ISBN: 0754638405

‘Office Politics: How Work Really Works’ by Guy Browning is published by Ebury Press ISBN : 0091910757
