Children with autism spend time with horses
When Rupert and Kristin Isaacson’s son Rowan was diagnosed with autism they struggled to find something that might help him settle in his own skin. Then one extraordinary day Rowan struck up a relationship with a usually temperamental mare, Betsy. The calm and pleasure that horses gave Rowan have now helped to give birth to a new project, Horse Boy Camps, offering the chance for children with autism to spend time with horses. Rupert Isaacson joins Jenni in the studio along with Rhoda McGivern who helped to evolve the idea of the camps. They are joined by Dr Nicola Martin, an autism expert who is Head of Disability and Wellbeing Services at the London School of Economics.
'The Horse Boy', by Rupert Isaacson is published by Penguin, ISBN 978-0-141-03363-1National Autistic SocietyDisclaimer
