Outdoor games in 20th century Britain

'Hop, Skip and Jump: the story of children’s play' is a new two-part documentary series beginning today on BBC4. It tells the story of children's outdoor games in the 20th-century, and the way in which play varied between city and country, boys and girls, and different social classes. The programme’s producer Steve Humphries joins Jane to discuss what the changes in outdoor play mean for today's children. Jane also talks to the journalist, scriptwriter and grandmother Jan Etherington.

Hop, Skip and Jump: The Story of Children's Play is on BBC4 at 9pm, Tuesday 8th December
