Have we neglected parents in the rush to put children first? 21 September 2009
New report wants a greater focus on parents' needs

The recent string of child neglect cases have prompted calls to rethink the way children are monitored and protected.  But a new report from 'The Young Foundation' argues that the needs of parents are being overlooked. They say that government parenting support has placed too much emphasis on the child’s needs while neglecting the emotional and mental health of the parent. Yvonne Roberts is a Senior Associate at the Young Foundation and co-author of the report, Eileen Hayes is a parenting expert and advisor to the NSPCC. They join Jane to discuss whether we’ve swung too far in focusing on the child.
