Social
Domestic Violence 20 Aug 2009
What services should be made available to male survivors?

Last week on Woman's hour we reported that a women’s refuge in Weymouth is being closed so that the local authority can redirect money into domestic violence services that support men as well as women. But are the needs of men who have survived domestic violence the same as those of women? Official statistics  reveal that rates of domestic violence against men are only slightly lower than those against women. But some front line workers dispute these figures, saying men who report themselves as victims of domestic violence often turn out to be primary perpetrators. Jenni discusses the issues with Damian Carnell from the Nottinghamshire Domestic Violence Forum, and Mark Brooks from Mankind.
