Social
Winifred Foley 31st March 2009
Providing support to ensure sexual health and well-being

Winifred Foley grew up in the 1920’s in the small isolated village of Brierly in the Forest of Dean. It was a world of unspoilt beauty but also hardship. She first started writing about her childhood when she was nearly 60 and heard a radio appeal for personal histories. This resulted in her story being serialised on Woman’s Hour back in 1972. Sadly, Winifred died recently at the age of 94, but, in an interview for the programme, recorded shortly before her death, she talked to Felicity Finch about her writing, and about the village of her childhood.

“Full Hearts and Empty Bellies” by Winifred Foley, is published by Abacus,  ISBN 978 0 349 12218 2
