State pension changes 30th March 2009
More women to get a full basic state pension.

Currently only around 35% of women reaching retirement age are eligible for a full state pension. From April 2009 some people will be able to buy back an additional six years of National Insurance contributions to boost their basic state pension. April 2009 is also the one year countdown to changes that will see the state pension age for women gradually rise to be the same as men; and other reforms will mean more women will get a full basic state pension. Jane Garvey is joined by Rosie Winterton MP, Minister of State for Pensions and the Ageing Society, and Anna Pearson, Policy Manager for Help the Aged and a member of the Women’s Pensions Network.
