Providing support to ensure sexual health and well-being
One aspect of adulthood that most of us take for granted is the right to be sexually active. But how can we help people with learning disabilities channel their feelings and drives to get pleasure from their close personal relationships, and provide them with protection from encounters which are exploitative? Janet and Michael, an engaged couple in their 40s who both have learning difficulties, explain how their relationship works. And Jane talks to Audrey Simpson, Director of the FPA for Northern Ireland, who spearheaded their 'It’s My Right' campaign promoting the sexual health and well-being of people with learning disabilities. Jane also talks to Lucy Baxter, mother of 21-year-old Otto who has Down’s Syndrome and is the subject of a recent BBC 3 documentary.Stars In The Sky
