Are we getting closer to having women bishops?
This week the General Synod will be voting in the next stage of the process that could result in the ordination of women bishops in the Church of England. The Church voted to allow women priests in 1992, but currently the law prevents them from becoming bishops – the so-called ‘stained-glass ceiling’. Now, a draft law is to be discussed which could provide for male "complementary" bishops to look after parishes unwilling to accept a woman.
