Lesley joseph as the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella
The varied representation of the character in the arts

You shall go to the ball! So says the Fairy Godmother as she waves her magic wand in the pantomime, Cinderella.   The character has also had many other incarnations apart from panto - from French feminist literature to Disney and in the modern day makeover programmes. Jenni discusses the various guises of this powerful supernatural patron, with the actress, Lesley Joseph and Dr. Diane Purkiss, Fellow and Tutor in English at Keble College, Oxford.
