Celibacy 29 October 2008
Clara Meadmore
Are there benefits to living without sex?

At 105 years of age, Clara Meadmore is Britain’s oldest virgin. Despite turning down several marriage proposals, the former secretary says she has no regrets. She was simply too busy living to take on the hassle of an intimate relationship. She may be unique, but many younger women are also exploring the benefits of saying no to sex. So is staying single the secret to living longer? Or is an active sex life essential for our health and happiness? Clare Balding discusses the issues with self-proclaimed celibate mother-of-one, Sonia Poulton, and Times and Marie Claire sex columnist and author, Suzi Godson.
