 Hill farming in the north of England has had a tough few years. It's always been a hard way to make a living but after foot and mouth, many rural communities struggled to make ends meet and diversification on the farm became even more crucial to the upland farmers' survival . Increasingly, women on the farm are turning their hands to everything from bed and breakfast to quad bikes. At this year's Kilnsey show in the Yorkshire Dales the Uplands Farming Initiative highlighted the work of the hill farm women, - the farmer’s wives and daughters who’ve turned their hands to businesses that are enabling families to hang on to their family farms.
