 Susan Smith - A Soldier's Mother 03 Sept 2008
Phillip Hewett
Suing the Ministry of Defence over the death of her son.

In 2005, Private Phillip Hewett (pictured) and two others were killed while on patrol in a Snatch Land Rover in the Al Amarah region of Iraq. These vehicles are lightly armoured and only provide limited protection from attack. Phillip’s mother, Susan Smith, believes that he should never have been travelling in such a vehicle in such a dangerous area, and is bringing her case to the High Court. She tells Jenni why she is taking on this campaign, and talks about the effect that her son’s death has had on her and her family.
