Iraq’s parliament has gone into recess this month in deadlock over a key political reform - provincial election law. Provincial law has been seen by some as a way of reconciling Iraq's ethnic and religious communities by giving them power at a local level. But what will provincial law mean for women in Iraq? Jenni is joined by Iraqi MP Maysoon Al-Damluji who feels that women’s rights are being sidelined by the question of provincial law, given the deteriorating situation many women now find themselves in. Maysoon is also President of the grass roots organisation the Iraqi Independent Women’s Group. |
