What can be done about this growing problem?
When marriages between British Asians and partners from Pakistan breakdown, their children are at risk of being abducted and taken to live abroad. One international charity claims that abductions are growing. Once taken abroad getting the children safely back to Britain becomes fraught with legal difficulties. There is an agreement between the UK and Pakistan which says that abducted children should be returned to their country of habitual residence – so why is it so difficult to get children back from a parent who has abducted them?
