Dr Mable John 30 April 2008
Mable John with Danny Glover from film HoneyDripper
From the blues to the pulpit

Dr Mable John began her career as a blues singer – for years she sang alongside Ray Charles who adored the unique sound of her voice, and she also worked with the legendary Billie Holiday. She left her singing career to become a Minister –doing decades of charity work with her local community in Los Angeles. Now she’s back singing the Blues starring alongside Danny Glover in the film, ‘The Honeydripper’ – dramatising the inexorable rise of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Jenni talks to her about the film, and working with the likes of Ray Charles and Billie Holiday.

The Honeydripper is released in cinemas on May 9th.
