Women and Political Writing 26 Mar 2008
George Orwell at the BBC in 1943.
Why aren’t women writing political books?

The shortlist for the Orwell Prize for political writing will be announced this evening. The prize has attracted scores of high-powered entries, with women fairly well represented as political journalists. But when it comes to political books, the vast majority are still written by men.

Jane discusses why this is the case with Professor Jean Seaton, the chair of the judges and the political journalist Polly Toynbee.
