Pulitzer prize winning author, Jane Smiley, talks about her latest novel ‘Ten Days In The Hills’
Boccaccio's colourful 14th-century epic 'The Decameron' famously corralled 10 people in a Florentine villa, away from the spectre of the plague sweeping the land, and over the course of 10 days had them swap stories. In ‘Ten Days in the Hills’, Pullitzer prize winning novelist Jane Smiley transfers this narrative framework to the Hollywood home of has been writer and one-time academy award-winner Max. The morning after the 2003 Oscars ceremony, and several days after the invasion of Iraq, a ragtag group of family members and friends makes itself comfortable for what turns out to be a long haul. Jane joins Sheila McClennon to discuss her latest work.
‘Ten Days In The Hills’ by Jane Smiley is published by Faber. £8.99, ISBN 978-0-571-23534-6 Jane Smiley's Blog FaberDisclaimer
