Student Homesickness 13 Dec 2007
Bedsit
Coming home for the Christmas holidays

After three months at university, most new students are happily installed in halls or bedsits enjoying their new found freedom with a diet of instant pasta, toast and cheap alcohol. It's normal for undergraduates to feel homesick in the first few weeks but for some, leaving home for the first time can be a painful experience and feelings of isolation and loneliness make homesickness a very real problem. And for the parents who have survived empty nest syndrome and the tearful phone calls and are just now beginning to enjoy some peace and quiet at home - how do they cope when the offspring come back home for the Christmas holidays? Jenni discusses the problems with student Abigail Morris, a father with children at university – Richard Denton - and Head of Counselling & Welfare at Kings College London, Ann Conlon.
