Tackling Abuse in the Catholic Church
Eileen Shearer had one of the most challenging jobs around – for five years she was the Director of COPCA – the Catholic Office for the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults. It was set up in the wake of the Nolan Report into the sex abuse scandals that had been enveloping the Church. It was Eileen’s job to try to address the issue. Just before the publication of a second report which looked at how well the Church was doing in its attempts to put its house in order Eileen stepped down. She joins Jenni to discuss her five years at the helm.
