Do we do too much for our children?

French author Corinne Maier has scandalised her fellow countrymen with her latest book No Kids: 40 Reasons Not to Have Children. As she tells Miriam O'Reilly, not only does she regret the effort and expense that her own children have cost her, but she also says that people in general do too much for their offspring and that it does not make them happy. To discuss the pressures of being a parent, Miriam is joined by author and mother Joanne Harris - whose novels include Chocolat and by Professor Hugh Cunningham - author of The Invention of Childhood .
