The Saudi Arabian author talks about her controversial first novel 'Girls of Riyadh'.
Rajaa Alsanea grew up in a middle-class family in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Two years ago she published her first novel, 'Girls of Riyadh', which some people in Saudi Arabia tried to ban because of its controversial content. It tells the story of four young Saudi women and their attempts to find husbands and true love. Now a best seller in many parts of the Middle East, the book continues to cause a stir throughout much of the Arab world and it is published this month in the UK. Miriam O’Reilly talks to Rajaa Alsanea about why she wrote the novel and the impact it has had.
'Girls of Riyadh' by Rajaa Alsanea is published by Fig Tree Hardback, ISBN: 978-1-905-49020-2.BBC country profile – Saudi ArabiaDisclaimer
