Horse Racing 21 June 2007
Horse Racing
Today is ladies day at Ascot with its traditional parade of hats and fashions. While the presence of women is celebrated off the course, on the course they are less welcome. Although they’ve made great strides as trainers, few are involved as professional jockeys. It’s hard to get rides above men, and without race experience women can’t improve - a situation which has forced one amateur rider to organise a hurdle championship for women. Jill Hopkins reports from the women’s race at Stratford.
