Work
Sexism in the Apprentice 12 June 2007
Alan Sugar
Can you ask women questions about childcare at a job interview?

More than five million viewers have been watching Alan Sugar’s search for his apprentice over the last twelve weeks. Last Wednesday, Katie Hopkins surrendered the place that she had just won in tomorrow’s final of The Apprentice. She had been grilled about her willingness to relocate her family and about her childcare arrangements. But was it right that she was asked these questions, when a male candidate with children escaped similar enquiries about his caring responsibilities? Jane talks to Ruth Lea, Director for the Centre for Policy Studies and to Katherine Rake, Director of the Fawcett Society about the questions you can and can't ask at job interviews.
