The Demise of the Doily 29th May 2007
At one time, every respectable cake stand and tea plate was graced by a paper doily. Now, it seems, the days of the doiley are numbered as a leading supermarket chain  decides to withdraw them from their shelves, due to a lack of demand. Former Blue Peter presenter, Janet Ellis, and social historian, Christina Hardyment join Jenni to talk about these delicate paper circles and discuss whether they could be reinvented for the 21st century. Will they ever reclaim their place in Britain's homes or will they follow the sugar tongs to the great tea tray in the sky?
