 This year celebrates 100 years of the all-female corps with the unforgettable name - 'FANY’ - the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, founded in 1907. During World War II, FANYs had semi-civilian status and paradoxically for a women’s Corps founded on first aid and ambulance driving, were the only female military unit permitted to carry arms.
Over the coming weeks we will be hearing the reminiscences of some of the unit’s former members. Ann Bonsor worked with the SOE as a wireless telegraphist and her work was so secret, that when she was sent abroad, she wasn’t even told of her destination.FANYDisclaimer
