Women Artists in the Tate |

The trustees of Tate Modern have decided to acquire more works by women artists to address the imbalance in its collection. Of the 39 major works bought over the last two years, only two were by female artists. Historically, the art world has been dominated by male artists, but in recent years contemporary artists such as Tracey Emin, Rachel Whiteread and Gillian Wearing have gained prominence. So why is there still such an imbalance in Tate Modern, Britain’s main showcase for contemporary art?
