According to the British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF), there are as many as 4,000 children in the UK waiting to be adopted. Some of them wait many years to find a permanent and loving home, and around 40% never do. Now BAAF wants to encourage single people to come forward to adopt.
Jenni Murray talks to Julia Wise, author of a new book "Flying Solo", about her experiences as a single woman adopting a young boy and Bridget Betts, an independent social worker and BAAF trainer, who has undertaken research into recruiting and supporting single adopters.
