Lindsey Davis is the author of the widely-acclaimed Falco detective novels, set in the first century AD Roman world. Back in 2004 Marcus Didius Falco was voted one of the most appealing male fictional characters by Woman’s Hour listeners. Lindsey's first novel, The Silver Pigs, was published in 1989 and since then she has won the inaugural Ellis Peters Historical Dagger award and received the Sherlock Award for best comic detective. Three of the Falco novels have been dramatised for Radio 4 and the fourth will be serialised in April.
As the 18th Falco novel is published, Jenni will be talking to Lindsey about the inspiration behind Falco, why she became interested in ancient Rome and how she ended up becoming a writer after a long career in the civil service.
