Who should be responsible for Internet Safety? 09 Feb 2007
The busting of a huge international paedophile ring this week has again focussed attention on what is surely the most unpleasant aspect of the Internet explosion. In addition, on Tuesday, three British men were convicted of grooming a pair of teenage girls, with a view to sexual assault. In the United States, the parents of five girls, abused by men they’d met online, are suing the social networking website MySpace, claiming that it did not do enough to protect their children. So who should take responsibility for protecting children from predatory advances online? And what can parents do to minimise the risk to their children? Martha discusses this with Julia Davidson, Doctor of Criminology at the University of Westminster, and Mike Galvin, Director of Internet Operations at BT.
