When the television company Al Jazeera launched a new English language channel at the end of last year, its schedules included a weekly programme dedicated to covering the news from a woman's perspective. But for many women in the Arab world, the political pages of a newspaper are still considered a “no go” area. In some parts of the Middle East women face sexual harrassment and risk their lives in pursuit of a career in journalism. However, some female journalists are challenging attitudes and starting to change the place of women in the Arab media.
