Work
Talent Agency Fees 19 Jan 2007
A new campiagn has been launched against some talent agencies which, it is claimed, are cashing in on the dreams of young aspiring artists. The actors union Equity says some unscrupulous agencies are encouraging them to believe they can "make it", and are charging them hefty upfront fees - only to disappear as soon as they have received the money. A recent survey found that three-quarters of people paying up-front fees to agents receive no work from them in the following 12 months and more than 90% of cases find that they receive only a couple of jobs. Ritula Shah talks to Fiona and her daughter Lily about how their dreams were dashed by false promises They discuss how lawful these practices actually are and how to avoid them.
