Marni Nixon - the woman behind the voice 22 Nov 2006
Marni Nixon - the woman behind the voice
Marni Nixon has one of the best known singing voices of the 20th century, having performed in many of the favourite screen musicals, but her name remains relatively unknown. She provided the singing voices for Deborah Kerr’s schoolmistress, Anna, in “The King and I,” Natalie Wood’s Maria in “West Side Story”, and Eliza Doolittle, played by Audrey Hepburn in “My Fair Lady.” While her talent for matching the voice of these actors earned her recognition in the industry, it also prevented her from being known to the public. Marni has now published her autobiography “I could have sung all night” and she’ll be telling Jenni about her hidden career as a Hollywood ghost singer.

“I could have sung all night” is pub by Billboard Books  ISBN: 0-8230-8365-9
