New research reveals that one in ten parents of primary school children never reads to them, and that as school life begins, parents drop the reading habit, with only a third of parents continuing to read every day. Dads do particularly badly. For those parents who do read, the average time spent on it is 10-15 minutes compared to one hour and 29 minutes of a child’s average day spent watching TV. So why don’t parents read to their children and what can be done to encourage them?
