Natural England, the new agency set up by the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Bill to champion the English countryside, comes into being next month. As an amalgamation of English Nature, most of the Countryside Agency and DEFRA's Rural Development Service, it aims to be a "one stop shop" for farmers, and an independent body to ensure England's natural environment is protected.
