Breaking taboos 22 September 2006
As part of our Woman's Hour 60th anniversary celebrations we discuss how the 1980s was an era of breaking taboos.

The word 'vagina' was mentioned on Woman's Hour in the 1940s and then not again until the 1960s. Over the years we've discussed incest, pornography and "women's plumbing issues" when they were not acceptable topics for polite conversation.

But what do taboos say about society? Do they tell us that there are still "no go" zones, even today? And do taboos come and go?

Martha is joined by author and broadcaster Edwina Currie and novelist Jenny Colgan to discuss breaking taboos.
